Aiming to be inclusive
Disability sport
We are devoted in ensuring that children, adults and athletes of all ages and abilities with a physical, sensory and learning disability have equivalent opportunities to participate in sport and physical activity in a vibrant environment throughout the Scottish Borders. We focus on ABILITY rather than disability

Borders Disability Sport Group
Borders Disability Sports Group is a charitable voluntary organisation, with the purpose to encourage and promote the development of sport and physical recreation among people with physical, sensory, learning or complex disabilities. The objective is to raise awareness and provide as much physical activity participation as possible. In doing so, we provide opportunities in a sport or leisure-based environment for all individuals with a disability by developing interest, increasing their self-esteem, overall health and linking them to initiatives in the local community.
The hardest part of participating and transitioning in sport or physical activity as an individual with a disability is the stigma normally attached and the perceptions people generally have of those with a disability. However, we constantly strive to break down those barriers by:
- Developing and implementing a coordinated disability sport and physical activity initiatives
- Working with families to make transitioning into sport & physical activity a streamlined process
- Supporting community clubs / coaches to develop their own services around disability inclusion
- Offering grant assistance to encourage sport & physical activity engagement
- Enhancing links with public services, educational services & charity organisations
