The magic of the ballet is coming to Kelso Tait Hall
The magic of the ballet is coming to Kelso Tait Hall
After Crown Ballet’s successful performance of The Nutcracker last year, they are back at Kelso Tait Hall with their delightful production of Swan Lake.
One of the most famous ballets of all time, Swan Lake is one of Tchaikovsky’s best works, featuring some of ballet’s most memorable music and breath-taking dance. Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake was composed in 1875 as a commission by Vladimir Petrovich Begichev, the intendant of the Russian Imperial Theatres in Moscow. The original production was premiered on Friday 4 March 1877, and now almost 150 later it continues to attract worldwide audiences, young and old.
It is the compelling legend of a tragic romance in which a princess, Odette, is turned into a swan by an evil curse. Prince Siegfried chances upon a flock of swans while out hunting. When one of the swans turns into a beautiful young woman, he is instantly captivated – will his love prove strong enough to break the evil spell that she is under?
The international cast coming to Kelso include Principal Dancers from Ukraine, with Yuliia Kuzmych as Odette and Dmytro Vasyliev as Prince Siegfried. Yuliia was a soloist at the Kyiv Opera House from 2015 to 2022 and worked at the United Ukrainian Ballet from 2022 to 2024. Dmytro Vasyliev studied at the State Choreographic College in Kyiv and Kherson State University. He worked at the Kharkiv National Theatre for Opera and Ballet from 2011 to 2024, where he was a leading soloist for many years. He has been a soloist in the Crown Ballet ensemble since 2022.
Swan Lake is full of mystery and romance – a wonderful evening out for the whole family and memories which you will cherish long after the final curtain falls!
