Jim Clark Motorsport Museum Celebrates Five Years with Family Day

The Jim Clark Motorsport Museum celebrates five years of welcoming visitors from all over the world with an action-packed family fun day on Saturday, 17 August. And for one day only, it is rolling back admission prices to those from 2019.

There will be numerous exciting activities for children of all ages throughout the day. For those who dream of being a racing driver, the Jim Clark Challenge offers the chance to set the fastest time on a brand new racing simulator. Those more mechanically inclined can try the tyre-changing competition, with prizes for the fastest times. Additionally, there will be various arts and crafts activities, including painting, map and collage making, building a peg car, and designing a racing car color scheme. The Scalextric set will also be available for everyone’s enjoyment.

Kenneth McLean, the Learning and Engagement Officer, commented, “The Jim Clark Motorsport Museum opened in 2019 and has been a critical success, very popular with our visitors. This is going to be a day of fun activities with something for everyone, and we hope to see many people in the museum on the day.”

The Jim Clark Motorsport Museum tells the inspiring story of Jim Clark’s life in farming and motor racing. A double World Champion in Formula One, he remains the only driver to win both a World Championship and the Indianapolis 500 in the same season. Despite his untimely death in a race in Germany, Jim Clark is still regarded as one of the greatest racing drivers and role models in motorsport.

Currently on display at the museum are three special cars: the D-Type Jaguar, the first purpose-built racing car Jim Clark drove; a Lotus Cortina raced successfully in the British Saloon Car Championship; and a Lotus 38, adapted for the Indianapolis 500 race in 1967. Using a combination of traditional displays and modern interactivity, the Jim Clark Motorsport Museum is a must-visit for any fan of motor racing.
