Essential Works to Live Borders Leisure Facilities
Essential Works to Live Borders Leisure Facilities – Temporary Closures
Live Borders are advising of necessary inspections to Gytes Leisure Centre (Peebles), Kelso Swimming Pool, Tweedbank Sports Centre and Bowls Hall, and essential remedial works at Teviotdale Leisure Centre (Hawick).
Every five years the facilities are required to undergo an EICR (Electrical Installation Condition Report). This is a legal requirement involving an extensive inspection of wiring throughout the properties.
The EICR inspections at Gytes Leisure Centre (Peebles), Kelso Swimming Pool and Tweedbank Sports Centre amd Bowls Hall have been scheduled. Some of these inspections are expansive and require the facility to close while the inspectors are on site, both to allow for inspection to be completed as quickly as possible, but also to ensure the safety of staff and public.
To undertake comprehensive testing of these three facilities, it is necessary for some to close to the public for a period each day, over a five-day period.
The EICR remedial works identified at Teviotdale Leisure Centre are more extensive, and this will involve an approximate one-month closure; this is not unexpected considering the age of the property and the changes in regulatory standards over the last five years. The works represent an investment of £30,000 in Teviotdale Leisure Centre.
The works dates are as follows:
Gytes Leisure Centre: Monday 19 to Friday 23 February (inclusive). Centre will open as normal from 4.00pm each day of closure.
Kelso Swimming Pool: Monday 4 to Friday 8 March (inclusive). Centre will open as normal from 3.30pm each day of closure.
Tweedbank Sports Centre: To close Tuesday 12 and Thursday 14 March (only). At this time this closure only affects sports centre (changing rooms and gym). The 2G pitch and running track will be open as normal. Centre will open as normal from 4.00pm each day of closure.
Tweedbank Bowls Hall: To close Monday 11 and Wednesday 13 March (only). Centre will open as normal from 4.00pm each day of closure.
Teviotdale Leisure Centre: Monday 4 March to Thursday 28 March. Full closure.
All membership payments will be frozen for Teviotdale Leisure Centre over the closure period, but as part their membership our members will still be able to access all our swimming pools, gyms or fitness classes at any of our other locations.
We are in the process of contacting all our members, clubs and learn to swim children, and will make alternative arrangements for as many groups as possible for them at Selkirk Leisure Centre. We welcome all users to our other facilities over this period.
We appreciate these essential works will cause some disruption, but we will do everything we can to keep the closures to a minimum as the works progress.
Anyone with any queries should contact enquiries@liveborders.org.uk
Live Borders will update as works progress.
