Investigating Pattern through Colour and Collage with Lynsey Calder

Investigating Pattern through Colour and Collage with Lynsey Calder

This workshop is called ‘Investigating Pattern through Colour & Collage’

In partnership with the Bernat Klein Foundation, The Glasgow School of Art has explored the new and sustainable production for Bernat Klein’s 1960s/ 70s screen-printed fabrics, known as the Diolen prints. This workshop focuses on the creative and technical processes used to ‘deconstruct’ Klein’s textile design.

Lynsey will talk about her recent work with the Foundation where she’s explored Bernat Klein’s archive through traditional and digital print methods. Then participants will have the opportunity to create their own designs through collage and cut through.

Original Bernat Klein marketing brochures show first-hand, Klein’s ideas on the presentation of his fabric ranges, and varying fashion styles from the 1960s and ’70s.  Lynsey will introduce you to samples of Bernat Klein’s original printed collection of fabrics, her own interpretation of one of these designs from initial photograph to reproduction and invite discussion around his inspirations for choice of colour, proportion and scale in his printed designs.

We hope to give each participant a chance to connect and collaborate with other creatives whilst providing inspiration for your own work post-workshop.

Aimed at early career practitioners and small to medium enterprises practicing in the creative industries, this immersive workshop will look at the work of Bernat Klein, celebrating colour, texture, design & sustainability through creative activities.

All materials are supplied.

This is one of a series of exhibitions and events organised by the Bernat Klein Foundation in collaboration with partners including Live Borders to celebrate the life and career of Bernat Klein, textile designer, artist and colourist (1922 – 2014).
