The Scottish Mental Health Art Festival.

‘In/Visible’ New Drama Workshops @ Heart of Hawick

Overview

The Scottish Mental Health Arts Festival (SMHAF) will return this October exploring the theme of ‘In/Visible’.

Now in its 18th year, the annual festival is led by the Mental Health Foundation. It takes place across Scotland and covers all artforms. SMHAF aims to provide a platform for everyone to create and share art inspired by mental health and explore how the arts and creativity can support people to live mentally healthier lives.

Whether this is completely new to you or you are brushing up existing skills, all experience ranges are welcome.

When: Every Tuesday from 2/10/24 to 03/12/24
Where: Heart of Hawick Auditorium
Time: 19.00 – 21.00
Cost: £10 for eight weeks
Age: 18+

For our next theatre course for writers and actors you are invited to join us to create a new piece of theatre based on the theme of ‘In/Visible,’ exploring what it means to be invisible and how that translates to the stage.

With expert direction from professional theatre maker and director Clare Prenton, you will take part in improvisation workshops where you and the group will be encouraged and supported to devised scripts.

The course is designed to help you gain confidence and skills in voice, acting and script reading to lift text from page to stage to confidently take the space and ‘fill’ what the late, great director Peter Brook called the ‘empty space’.

All being well some of the new work will be performed for friends and family on the final week.

Numbers are limited so book your tickets now.
