What's The Story? Storytelling Workshop
Overview
Join Live Borders Arts & Creativity with James Spence for a day of Storytelling.
This fun, practical workshop will introduce you to the basics of storytelling and give you the joy of telling a story. If you’re able to we ask that you to bring a story from your life you would like help with to develop and tell. The day will help you find your true voice, build your confidence, make you feel more spontaneous and present through your storytelling. This workshop will give you a greater understanding of how stories work, help you recognise the stories in your life, give you a greater sense of worth in your experiences.
Suitable for all interested in storytelling, performing or public speaking.
Jethart man James Spence has been a professional storyteller for over twenty years. He would listen enthralled at the family table to his father telling stories of local worthies. Whilst living in Edinburgh James trained under the late Traveller storyteller Stanley Robertson, gathering many of his stories and wisdom in the process. James has collected hundreds of stories of all sorts, including of course Jethart [Jedburgh] tales. He often tells stories in the guid Scots tongue of his upbringing. He is the writer of Scottish Borders Folk Tales. He also runs the monthly Story Club in the town.
‘Stories thrill, lift life out of the mundane, help us better understand and appreciate ourselves and others. Stories give us back our imagination and sense of fun. Stories make the world go round.’ (James Spence)
