elsewhere somewhere else – exhibition of new work by Ann Louise Kieran
elsewhere somewhere else – exhibition of new work by Ann Louise Kieran
else where somewhere else is an exhibition of drawings, paintings and objects, the placing of which hopefully conjures up something of a relationship between the individual pieces, the artist and the viewer.
Located in the Laird Gallery space at Old Gala House, paintings and large scale, collaged drawings, incorporate a recurring and an imagined floral motif. A faded yet present symbol, perhaps a memorial or an offering, these drawings are necessarily time based; made, unmade and remade through careful engagement and application of ink/collage to create a visual and emotional balance.
Coupled with these drawings are a series of objects cast/semi-cast in resin.
The work presented in this small and intimate gallery is personal in nature. The artist was particularly attracted to the domestic proportions and fixtures of the Laird Gallery, the resulting work made also in response to the space as well as being a record of a lived experience. This exhibition of work is presented as a repository for shared memories, a sort of dedication to life and to living and a hope that the personal can also be collective.
