Discover the history of the Coldstream Guards
Coldstream Museum
Overview
Coldstream Museum has closed its doors for the 2024 season! Thank you for your custom this year – we look forward to welcoming you all back when we reopen on 29 March 2025.
Visit Coldstream Museum to learn about the history and culture of the area. Coldstream sits on the Border between Scotland and England on the River Tweed and is most famous for being the home of the Coldstream Guards regiment in the British Army. Its location enriches the town with a rich military history, from Edward I’s invasion of Scotland in 1296, to the Wars of Scottish Independence and the Battle of Flodden.
Your visit is Free. Please donate to help us keep this unique museum free to everyone. Your donation plays a vital role in helping us to improve our visitor experience.

The Courtyard Gallery features three exhibitions during the season, promoting local artists and contemporary art exhibitions. Other features include an interactive children’s area, gift shop, and a courtyard with a picnic table.
The museum is located on the site of General Monck’s headquarters in Coldstream Market Square. From here he marched on London in 1660 to restore the Stuart Monarchy. Artifacts on loan from the Coldstream Guards tell the story of the Coldstream Regiment of Foot Guards at home and away, from the 17th century to the present day.
Permanent displays tell the story of the burgh featuring the Provosts regalia, local trades and sporting memorabilia.
